How to make a complaint

We act in the public interest and it is part of our role to ensure our members and member firms act with integrity and undertake work correctly and to the highest standards.

If your accountant is registered with us and their work falls short, you can complain to ICAEW. Remember we can only get involved in your complaint if the individual, student or firm is regulated by ICAEW.

Before you make a complaint

First though, it is important to remember that in many cases, issues can be resolved by talking to your accountant.

If talking doesn't resolve things, you should write to your accountant and ask them to respond within 28 days. If you find you are still unable to resolve the problem, or the nature of the issue(s) means that you need to contact us, we are here to help.

Please note ICAEW members who wish to notify us of an issue under their duty to report, complaints relating to insolvency and complaints relating to money laundering follow slightly different processes. Please use the relevant links below if your complaint falls into one of these categories.
