One of the changes introduced in third iteration of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) was that the government would publish the names of employers who had made claims in periods from December 2020.
The aim of the move is to provide transparency of use of taxpayer funds and the first list is due to be published on 26 January 2021.
To protect any claimants who are at risk of violence or intimidation if their name is published, HMRC will remove details from the list of those that could provide evidence of the risk.
HMRC has confirmed that employers can make applications to be removed from the list until Monday 25 January and it will remove names from publication until the application has been considered. Although the list will be updated monthly, employers will only have to apply once.
ICAEW’s Tax Faculty urges any employers who feel at risk to make their application as soon as possible.
Employers must make the application themselves, as the guidance confirms tax agents are not able to do so.
