The Administrative Burdens Advisory Board (ABAB) is an independent body representing the small business community. It aims to provide insight and expertise to HMRC, and to challenge HMRC on its performance.
ABAB’s annual survey for 2024 is open until 30 April 2024. A business or agent can take part. Those taking part in the survey are asked to provide information about their business or practice, and to give their views on a range of issues. These include basis period reform, making tax digital income tax self assessment, off-payroll working and engaging with HMRC.
Results from the survey will be published in September 2024. The key finding from the 2023 survey was that the burdens on business remained a significant concern and they continued to increase year on year.
Caroline Miskin, Senior Technical Manager ICAEW Tax Faculty, says: “The annual ABAB survey is a great opportunity for agents and businesses to make their voices heard. Almost 7,500 people took part last year, giving the findings real weight with HMRC. I’d encourage everyone affected by recent and forthcoming business tax changes, or who regularly engage with HMRC, to take part.”
