HMRC has released new functionality that allows agents to change the contact details in their agent services account (ASA). Changes can be made to their postal address, email address, business name and phone number.
Previously, agents had to write to HMRC to request a change to ASA contact details. These contact details are used for all services available through the ASA including VAT, capital gains tax property reporting, the trust registration service, making tax digital for income tax self assessment and the income record viewer. A firm (legal entity) can only have one ASA and only one address can be associated with each ASA.
If a business changes its legal entity, for example by incorporating or changing from a sole practitioner to a partnership, a new agent services account must be created.
Agents can request that the change in their ASA contact details is also effective for self assessment and corporation tax in their HMRC online services for agents account.
HMRC will still process the online requests manually and it may take up to four weeks for changes to be reflected on agent accounts.
The new functionality also allows agents to view and change their anti-money laundering supervision (AMLS) details. It is worth checking that the details HMRC holds for your firm are correct.
