HMRC relaunched private beta testing of MTD ITSA on 22 April 2024 ahead of mandation for some taxpayers in 2026/27. Those taking part in the testing must use software that is compatible with MTD ITSA.
HMRC has confirmed that two more software developers have now launched software that works with MTD ITSA. This brings the total to seven:
- 1 2 3 Sheets Ltd (record keeping and bridging)
- APARI (record keeping through to submission)
- Digita Personal Tax - Thomson Reuters (bridging only)
- Intuit QuickBooks Online (record keeping through to submission)
- Sage Accounting (record keeping through to submission)
- SE_reports (bridging only, free option)
- self assessment direct (record keeping and bridging, free option)
APARI had the higher number of participants in previous iterations of MTD ITSA testing and it is no surprise to see it join. Digita is the first product from a developer that has long offered a self assessment tax software product for agents. There is a longer list of products in development. Some of these may become available during 2024/25, others for 2025/26 or later.
ICAEW’s Tax Faculty considered the pros and cons of joining the testing during a webinar on 24 April 2024. The webinar is available to watch on-demand. For ICAEW members, viewing the webinar could contribute up to one hour of verifiable CPD. ICAEW has published an article explaining how content provided by the Tax Faculty can help members meet their CPD requirements.
