HMRC relaunched private beta testing of MTD ITSA on 22 April 2024 ahead of mandation for some taxpayers in 2026/27. Those taking part in the testing must use software that is compatible with MTD ITSA.
HMRC has confirmed that two more software developers have now launched software that works with MTD ITSA, bringing the total to nine:
- 1 2 3 Sheets Ltd (record keeping and bridging)
- APARI (record keeping through to submission)
- Digita Personal Tax - Thomson Reuters (bridging only)
- FreeAgent (record keeping through to submission, free option)
- Hammock for landlords (record keeping through to submission)
- Intuit QuickBooks Online (record keeping through to submission)
- Sage Accounting (record keeping through to submission)
- SE_reports (bridging only, free option)
- self assessment direct (record keeping and bridging, free option)
Hammock for landlords has received ICAEW’s technology accreditation. ICAEW's Technology accreditation covers a range of products all designed for the accountancy industry. Each is independently evaluated by RSM.
FreeAgent is available free to certain customers of NatWest.
ICAEW cannot recommend any particular software product.

Opportunity to engage with HMRC
Would your firm be interested in hosting a visit from HMRC?
HMRC has already visited some smaller firms who will have clients coming into MTD ITSA, and would like to arrange more visits in the coming months. These are listening sessions involving open discussions. The visits will help HMRC to gather agent feedback and comments on MTD ITSA, and to consider how HMRC can better help agents and clients to prepare.
The visits take up to two hours and HMRC is interesting in undertaking visits in or around: Edinburgh, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester, Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff and London.
If you would be interested, please email caroline.miskin@icaew.com.
