Along with leaders from 30 UK companies and financial institutions, Michael Izza, Chief Executive of ICAEW, has signed a joint letter to Jeremy Hunt, Chancellor of the Exchequer, calling on the government to set out a ‘net zero investment plan’ alongside its upcoming green finance strategy.
Many senior executives in the business and the financial sector are eager to invest in the net zero transition and capitalise on the significant growth opportunities it presents for the UK economy. However, to do so – and as the letter points out – the government must provide certainty and consistency in policy, and the right long-term public investment to achieve decarbonisation in the most critical sectors of the economy.
The letter argues that all this should be set out in a net zero investment plan underpinned by independent tracking of financial flows across the economy.
