Community amateur sports clubs asked to check their status: HMRC is writing to community amateur sports clubs and asking them to check if they are still eligible to stay within the scheme.

MTD ITSA private beta testing relaunched: Check the eligibility criteria for MTD ITSA private beta testing and if your software developer is ready. An ICAEW Tax Faculty webinar on 24 April will explain more.

Only five software products ready for MTD ITSA testing: Just five software products will be available at the launch of MTD ITSA private beta testing on 22 April.

HMRC contacts more taxpayers named in the Pandora Papers: HMRC is sending a further batch of one-to-many letters to taxpayers it suspects may have UK tax to pay on foreign income and gains.

Consider using the real-time CGT service to report gains: ICAEW’s Tax Faculty is reminding taxpayers that HMRC’s real-time service can be used to report capital gains outside of self assessment, including gains on cryptoassets.

Payroll and rewards updates from ICAEW: ICAEW’s Tax Faculty has published a TAXguide on PAYE rates, thresholds and allowances, and produced a webinar on recent changes in employment taxes and related areas.

IESBA updates its ethical code in relation to tax planning: The International Ethics Standards Board (IESBA) has introduced new ethical provisions for accountants providing tax planning services.

New penalty regime to apply to taxpayers testing making tax digital: HMRC has explained how penalties will be charged where volunteers testing making tax digital income tax self assessment are late in making a payment or submitting a return.

Improved process for paying voluntary NIC for periods abroad: A person living or working abroad can apply digitally to pay voluntary NIC to fill gaps in their record.

New guidance on applying for help with paying IHT: HMRC has published guidance on applying for a grant on credit and on recent updates to tax rules and processes relevant to trusts and estates.

New HMRC guidance on R&D tax relief: HMRC has published additional and updated guidance on the new regime for R&D tax relief. The new regime is discussed in the Tax Faculty’s latest podcast.

HMRC publishes extra guidance on lifetime allowance abolition: HMRC has published additional guidance for pension scheme administrators on a range of issues, including the abolition of the lifetime allowance.

Consultations

Tax administration and maintenance day summary: A new consultation on the VAT treatment of private hire vehicles was among a number of announcements made on tax administration and maintenance (TAM) day.

Reminder: Have your say on tax regulation: ICAEW’s Tax Faculty is reminding members that the deadline for responding to the government’s consultation on regulation of the tax profession is fast approaching.

Welsh government consults on LTT multiple dwellings relief: The Welsh government is consulting on several changes to land transaction tax, including the abolition of multiple dwellings relief.

ABAB survey seeks views on HMRC’s performance: ICAEW’s Tax Faculty is encouraging businesses and agents to give their views on dealing with HMRC and managing recent and forthcoming tax changes.
