An ICAEW member for more than four decades, Jonathan Bloomer was best known for heading up insurer Prudential, but he spent many years helping to shape the Institute’s support for those in financial services.
In a statement following confirmation of his death, ICAEW has recognised his significant contributions to the profession and beyond.
“His leadership, insights and unwavering commitment to excellence have left an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of working with him,” it says.
“Jonathan was more than just a member of our organisation, he was a pioneer whose ability to bring together high-profile representatives from the City, including the regulator, Members of Parliament and senior business leaders, demonstrated his commitment to fostering collaboration across the sector under the ICAEW banner.”
Bloomer chaired ICAEW’s Financial Services Advisory Board from its inception in 2007 until its closure in 2015. He guided the Board through challenging years, addressing critical issues for ICAEW members, including the effectiveness of regulatory and accounting frameworks in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis.
“Drawing on his extensive experience, Jonathan reinforced the importance of strong governance and strategic direction, ensuring the Board’s work aligned with the Institute’s public interest role.”
The statement concludes: “His influence extended far beyond the boardroom, and he will be greatly missed.”
