Reforms to the UK apprenticeship system in England
On Tuesday 24 September, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson announced that a new growth and skills levy will replace the existing apprenticeship levy and include new foundation apprenticeships. To fund this, the Department for Education (DfE) is planning to remove some Level 7 apprenticeships from the scope of levy funding. We understand this news may be concerning to employers who are currently training Level 7 apprentices with us. Since first learning of the reform in last week's announcement we have started to develop a response that outlines the ICAEW Level 7 Accountancy Apprenticeship as one that should remain in the scope of levy funding. IfATE has confirmed to us that any students who are already completing an ICAEW Level 7 apprenticeship are not impacted and will continue under the existing apprenticeship funding rules. IfATE has also confirmed that employers are able to continue starting apprentices on the Level 7 apprenticeship as normal until further notice. Level 4 apprenticeships are not impacted by this announcement. Should you have any questions, please contact your local Business Development Manager.
