What areas does the ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency cover?
The certificate covers four key areas: legal and regulatory framework (English law), principles of insolvency, corporate and personal insolvency.

Do I need any prior knowledge or formal academic qualifications to register for the ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency?
No. There are no entry requirements. The programme is open to anyone who wants to gain essential, practical knowledge of the principles of insolvency.

How long does it take to complete the ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency?
ICAEW doesn’t impose any timeframe within which candidates must take the assessment. Study and assessments can be planned to fit in with your workload and business priorities. However, ICAEW encourages candidates to do so within no more than a few months of completing the modules, as the question banks are updated to reflect changes in legislation and insolvency guidance. Candidates can confirm with their tuition provider the exact dates from when questions may be updated. Candidates are limited to four attempts.

Does the the ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency count towards my ACA or CFAB studies?
No. The ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency is a stand-alone programme. However it can be studied as an additional module to complement existing ACA or CFAB studies.

Will I be eligible to sit the Joint Insolvency Examination Board (JIEB) examinations if I pass the ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency?
There are no academic eligibility requirements to sit the JIEB examinations, although you must be registered with a Recognised Professional Body. ICAEW is a Recognised Professional Body and The ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency could serve as a solid basis for study towards the JIEB examinations.

Does the ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency grant me an exemption to any part of the JIEB exams?
No. The certificate can serve as a basis for further study towards the JIEB examinations, but it does not provide any exemptions to those examinations.

Are there any additional or ongoing costs once I have successfully completed the assessment?
There are no additional fees or CPD requirements once you have gained the certificate, although we recommend that you maintain and enhance your knowledge by continuing your professional development.

How do I register for the ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency learning and assessment programme?
You must complete the following three stage process to study for the ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency and to book an assessment.
Stage 1 - Register with the ICAEW
Register as an ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency student, via our online student registration.
Stage 2 - Begin your studies
Decide which tuition provider you wish to study with. See section on tuition providers.
Stage 3 - Book an assessment
Computer-based assessments are held at approved assessment centres.

How does the assessment work?
The computer-based assessment may be taken at a choice of approved assessment centres or via remote invigilation. Your tuition provider will advise you whether you need to book directly with the assessment centre or through them. You will have 2.5 hours to complete the assessment. The pass mark is 55% and candidates may attempt the assessment a maximum of four times.
Credit for prior learning / exemptions

I have already studied finance at college/university. Can I apply for credits or exemptions towards the ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency?
No. There are no credits for prior learning or exemptions.
International students

Can I study for the ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency outside of the UK?
The ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency is based on English law and the computer-based assessment is delivered on demand. Find out more about the assessment here.
Assessment

Will I be entitled to use any designatory letters after my name when I have successfully completed the ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency?
No designatory letters are awarded with the ICAEW Certificate in Insolvency. You will receive a certificate as a formal record of achievement when you successfully complete the assessment.

Who will receive my assessment result?
You are the only person who will be able to access your assessment result online. You can forward your result to a third party from your online results page if you wish.

Can I practise the assessment?
An example of the assessment is available to give students an idea of the style of questions they will be expected to answer in the actual assessment.
