6. Probability

Optimising social media adverts

Pupils calculate probabilities to estimate the effectiveness of social media adverts.

Scenario

Pupils use data from a company’s recent social media advertising campaigns to answer probability questions about how successful similar campaigns are likely to be in the future.

National Curriculum 2 Apply ideas of randomness, fairness and equally likely events to calculate expected outcomes of multiple future experiments.
National Curriculum 8

Calculate the probability of independent and dependent combined events, including using tree diagrams and other representations, and know the underlying assumptions.

OCR 11.02c Use tree diagrams to enumerate sets and to record the probabilities of successive events (tree frames may be given and in some cases will be partly completed). Construct tree diagrams, two-way tables or Venn diagrams to solve more complex probability problems (including conditional probabilities; structure for diagrams may not be given).
