Accountancy Ancestors: Accountants' journal (New Zealand)

Information on the obituaries, illustrations and portraits from the Accountants' journal (New Zealand) that are indexed in the Accountancy Ancestors database.

The Accountants' journal was established in 1921 as the official journal of the New Zealand Society of Accountants.

Overview

The New Zealand Society of Accountants (NZSA) was established in September 1908. The NZSA was later re-named the Institute of Chartered Accountants of New Zealand (1996), which in turn was re-styled as the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (2005). This body merged with the the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia to form Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand in 2013.

History of the journal

The Accountants' journal was established in 1921 as the official journal of the New Zealand Society of Accountants. In its early years it offered a varied mixture of articles of professional interest, with a particular focus on the industry sectors in New Zealand that were not well catered for elsewhere. Following the merger of NZICA with ICAA a new magazine called 'Acuity' was launched in July 2014 to represent the new body.

The Accountants' journal published obituaries and biographical profiles, but also offered a monthly 'personal column' with short updates on new appointments in industry and changes in the partners at accountancy practices.

Library holdings

The Library holds a mostly complete run of Accountants' journal and its successor Chartered accountants' journal from July 1945 to May 2014. However, our bound copy of Volume 24 (XXIV) is missing issue 3 (September 1945). The issues from 1947 and 1948 include articles and thank you letters from the 'Parcels for Britain' campaign which saw contributors in New Zealand provide parcels for accountants in England.
