If you are looking for support materials for the current examinations, these can be found in the ACA Exam Resources section.
Copies of suggested answers and illustrative scripts for historical examinations are held in the ICAEW Library, and details of the Library's holdings of these documents are set out below.
Please note: ICAEW strongly discourages students from relying on older materials, which is why students can only access past papers and learning resources going back a few years on our website. Previous papers and questions were appropriate for the time that they were set but may now be dated because of political, economic or accounting developments or because of changes to the exam.
Suggested answers
Suggested answers for ICAEW examinations were published between 1887 and 1989 in the journals Student's Telephone (1887-1937) and Chartered Students' Telephone (1938-1989). These contained the questions set along with answers prepared by the directors and tutors of H. Foulks Lynch. The Library & Information Service holds a complete set of the journals from 1887 to 1989.
In addition, between 1950 and 1952 Study Services Ltd. published several volumes of specimen answers to the questions set at the Institute's Intermediate and Final examinations. The Library holds copies of most of these volumes; full details can be found on LibCat.
No suggested answers are held by the Library & Information Service for exams held since 1989, but some were published by training organisations.
Mark plans and illustrative scripts
The Library & Information Service holds a number of mark plans and illustrative/sample scripts for past examinations. Details of our holdings can be found on LibCat.
Mark plans and illustrative/sample scripts have often been combined with examiners' commentaries/reports. For more information the latter, see our guide to historical reports on examinations.
