Researching consumer price indices for the Crown Dependencies

Research guide

Updated: 21 Feb 2023 Update History

This guide sets out where to find consumer price indices data from the three Crown Dependencies — the Bailiwick of Guernsey, the Bailiwick of Jersey, and the Isle of Man.
Information on where to find UK consumer price indices data can be found in our separate guide to the RPI, CPI, and CPIH. The Library also maintains a guide to researching international consumer price indices, which lists sources of CPI data for jurisdictions other than the UK and its Dependencies.

How the Library can help

The ICAEW Library has compiled this guide to help everyone to find the consumer price indices data they need.

The Library enquiry team can also help ICAEW members, ACA students and other authorised users with requests for consumer price indices data, and related information. Library staff can consult print sources held in our collection on your behalf, and we can loan books and supply documents from our collection by email or post.

Jersey

The Government of Jersey publishes the latest figures for the Retail Prices Index (RPI) and other related measures on its website, on a quarterly basis. The data for each quarter are presented in a downloadable report.

The site also provides access to historical RPI data for Jersey from 1949 onwards, along with an inflation calculator.

Jersey's Fiscal Policy Panel produces reports containing forecasts for the Jersey economy, including predictions for inflation.

Isle of Man

The Isle of Man Government publishes Consumer Prices Index (CPI) data for the Dependency on its website, in a monthly inflation report. In addition to the data, each report contains information on the methodology used to calculate the figures.

The site also provides access to historical CPI data going back to 2008.

Guernsey

The States of Guernsey — the parliament and government of Guernsey — publishes the latest Retail Prices Indices and Household Costs Indices inflation statistics for Guernsey on its website, on a quarterly basis. The data are presented in an Inflation Bulletin, which is accompanied by separate files containing supplementary and historical information, and RPI and RPIX forecasts for the next four quarters.

The relevant page also includes links to a guide to the Guernsey Price Inflation Indices, and to an inflation calculator tool.

In addition, historical RPI and RPIX statistical publications are available going back to 2002.
