Guidance on your CPD review

Helpsheets and support

Published: 15 Jul 2022 Updated: 05 Mar 2024 Update History

ICAEW is required to monitor the CPD of its members, and in accordance with regulation 8(d) of the Continuing Professional Development Regulations, you have been randomly selected to submit your CPD record for review.

Your CPD requirements

ICAEW’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Regulations apply to all members (and relevant persons) who are not exempt. Individuals who fall within the remit of the regulations are required to:

  • Identify, at the start of every CPD Year, the CPD Category which is most applicable to them and reflect on their professional development needs, how they can meet them and create a plan for fulfilling those needs during that CPD year.
  • Undertake at least the minimum number of CPD hours stipulated for the CPD Category which is most applicable to them (including the minimum number of relevant and verifiable CPD hours).
  • Undertake a minimum of one hour’s ethics training.
  • Retain evidence of their relevant and verifiable hours for each CPD year for at least three years.

In renewing the ICAEW membership, you also confirm that you have complied with Principal Bye-law 56 which states: “All members and member firms shall comply with the requirements set out in the CPD Regulations except where, in the case of members, they are exempt under the CPD Regulations.”

Your CPD monitoring review

ICAEW’s Quality Assurance Department (QAD) are required (by the CPD Regulations and the FRC) to monitor members’ compliance with the CPD regulations.

We select a random sample of members to review each year.

In accordance with ICAEW’s CPD Regulations, individuals must supply CPD information promptly if requested by QAD – please note that completion and submission of these documents is only required if you have received an email asking you to complete them.

Completing your information questionnaire

Please complete the information questionnaire that you have been emailed promptly and accurately. This will be used by QAD to assess the CPD Category which is relevant to your role.

If you require further support to enable you to complete the questionnaire, guidance on icaew.com/cpd provides information and assistance.

If you are unable to find the relevant information on the ICAEW website, please contact the Scheduling Department on +44 (0)1908 546 335 or email qadvisits@icaew.com.

The Scheduling Department will also assist you if you have any questions in relation to uploading your supporting documents to the ShareFile link provided in your initial communication.

QAD review

Upon receipt of the information questionnaire and supporting documents, we will pass the relevant information to QAD.

The QAD reviewer may have sufficient information to conclude your review without the need to discuss any matters with you. However, if the reviewer does need to discuss matters with you, then we will contact you either by email or telephone.

Outcome of the review

After review by QAD we will either:

  • Contact you to inform you there are no matters which require action, and we will close our review.
  • Advise you of any required actions. We may ask you to provide a written response to our findings. If this is the case, the QAD reviewer will explain the response process and the next steps.
