Hear from our new CEO Alan Vallance on the critical role of sustainability assurance in today’s business landscape.
Making the global economy more sustainable is a massive challenge. It requires coordinated action from everyone on the planet. Politicians and policymakers have a clear role to play, but so do the professionals who help put that policy into action.
Therefore, as ICAEW Chief Executive Alan Vallance says, sustainability “runs through the heart of so much of what we do at ICAEW”. With increasing global demand for corporate reporting and disclosure on sustainability-related information, the focus on its assurance has never been greater. And chartered accountants – with their knowledge and skills in measuring, reporting and assuring – have a critical role to play.
Obtaining assurance over a company’s sustainability-related information is essential to help ensure that reporting is of high quality, reliable and comparable. This in turn allows investors and other stakeholders to assess how well prepared a company is for potential changes related to its operating environment and for market trends that could have a material impact.
ICAEW is developing a variety of resources to help members with their sustainability reporting and assurance work. This year, the Audit and Assurance Faculty conference is on Sustainability Assurance. This in-person event is taking place on Monday 10 June 2024 at Chartered Accountants’ Hall, London.
