Celebrating excellence 

The formal part of the evening includes a topical address from a leading figure in the world of finance and investment. The evening also celebrates excellence in corporate finance and includes the presentation of ICAEW's prestigious Corporate Development Award to a public company that has added most to shareholder value through M&A activity and investment. Top students sitting the exams for the ICAEW/CISI Diploma in Corporate Finance are also recognised.

The format facilitates interaction and dynamic discussion with other delegates, as well as providing the chance for business development and to meet high profile people within the sector. This extremely popular event also provides an update on the work of the faculty and includes an overview of current opportunities and developments in corporate finance.

The Fishmongers’ Company is one of the oldest and most ancient Livery Companies of the City of London, one of the ‘Great Twelve.’ For 700 years it has stood on the banks of the River Thames playing a leading role in upholding the standards in the trading of fish and shellfish . A role it continues today, as well as making a significant contribution to the UK fishing sector and other non-fishery areas through their Philanthropy and Grants projects.

Speaker: Lord Clement Jones
Lord Clement-Jones CBE LibDem Lords spokesperson for Science, Innovation and Technology

Chair of the Board of Trust Alliance Group (formerly Ombudsman Services), an independent not-for-profit group that provides dispute resolution for communications and energy utilities. He is a Consultant on AI Policy and Regulation with global law firm, DLA Piper, where former positions held include, London Managing Partner (2011-16), Head of UK Government Affairs, Chair of its China and Middle East Desks, International Business Relations Partner and Co-Chair of Global Government Relations. Former Board Member of the Corporate Finance Faculty of ICAEW. Held senior legal positions at Grand Metropolitan, now Diageo plc (Legal Director, Grand Metropolitan Retailing 1984-86) and London Weekend Television (Head of Legal Services 1980-83) now part of ITV plc.

Alan Vallance
Alan Vallance CEO, ICAEW

Alan was previously CEO of the Chartered Insurance Institute, leading the premier professional body for insurance and financial planning. A chartered accountant with Ernst & Whinney, Alan is a Fellow of ICAEW, Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and an Honorary Fellow of the Korean Institute of Architects.

Alistair Brew Head of Investment Operations, BGF

Alistair joined BGF in July 2011 to lead on new investments in the South East. He later ran the London investment team before moving into his current role, which is focused on delivering best practice across BGF. Alistair remains involved in new deal origination and sits on the boards of Gymbox, EvoDental and Juriba. Alistair has 21 years’ experience in small company investing, gained initially at Close Brothers and then at Octopus Ventures. Alistair qualified as an ACA with PwC in 1998.

David Petrie
David Petrie Head of Corporate Finance, ICAEW

David leads ICAEW’s work and public policy engagement in corporate finance. David is a highly experienced corporate financier and has been actively involved in numerous initiatives designed to improve access to finance and business investment, including leading a task force of 22 of the UK's leading business organisations and the British Business Bank, to devise the Business Finance Guide.
