ICAEW’s annual Healthcare Conference returned this year with a number of sessions which covered a wide range of practical and technical issues.
Pensions remains a popular issue and we were privileged to be joined by Graham Crossley, Director & Founder of MediFintech, who provided an insightful update on NHS Pensions, McCloud Remedy and remedial action, as well as a Q&A at the end of his presentation.
HMRC representatives answered questions submitted from delegates and provided the latest on Basis Period Reform, IR35 and McCloud Portal Access. James Gransby, Partner at Azets, provided an update on the GP contract for the coming year, including the effect this may have on PCNs. James also looked at what the future may bring and the effect this may have on our GP clients.
And of course, our keynote speaker, Dr Rebecca Pope, Clinical Neuroscientist and Roche UK's Digital & Data Science Innovation Lead, covered the motivations, key learnings and strategic aims of working towards delivering value to UK society and patients through better use of routine data; use of digital tools, including artificial intelligence.

“I think that the day was a great success and that is thankfully reflected in the feedback sent out shortly after. Members of the advisory group were instrumental in helping put the agenda together – whether that was providing topic suggestions, speaker recommendations or speaking on one of the sessions – and so I want to thank them, and everyone involved in helping put the day together. An enormous thank you to our speakers for their time and expertise and of course all the delegates who attended, submitted their questions and completed the survey form. Finally, I want to say a huge thank you to the team at ICAEW for all their hard work in planning and running the event. We will be reviewing the feedback we received and using this to help shape the conference for 2025. We hope to see you all there next year!”
Sally Sidaway, Healthcare Community Subject Matter Expert, who sits on the advisory group alongside Katie, also commented:
“Thank you to everyone who attended. We always try to ensure that the sessions we include in the agenda are not only topical but also reflect the needs and requirements of community members. This year we included subjects which we have not discussed in previous years, such as the sessions around AI and the pharma industry and I think we struck the right balance.”
