Smart meters are being installed in homes and offices across Great Britain as part of a mass infrastructure upgrade, and not only save the bill payer a job, but also help contribute to a more sustainable Great Britain. A win win.
Smart meters are the new generation of gas and electricity meters, and remove the necessity to take meter readings. They send automatic meter readings directly to your energy supplier, meaning both accurate bills, and an end to you having to take your own meter readings, leaving you with one less thing on your to do list.
But in addition to making life easier, there is also the bigger picture of sustainability.
Fflur Lawton, from Smart Energy GB explains,
“Smart meters are the foundation for a smarter and more flexible energy system for Great Britain.
“They use digital technology to improve the efficiency of the system that we currently have. This helps better manage supply and demand. Smart meters help the energy system know where and when energy is needed to help reduce waste and also to integrate more renewable power sources."
Smart meters are helping modernise Britain's energy system making it more efficient by enabling it to use more wind and solar power. So, from the moment your smart meter is installed, you are helping create a smart energy system which could ultimately help reduce our carbon emissions as a nation.
