Trusts: deadline for updating the TRS where there was a tax consequence in 2022/23 and a notifiable change before 6 April 2023 to additional information taxable trusts are required to provide. Tax consequence includes income tax, CGT, IHT, SDLT, SDRT, LBTT and LTT. If there is no tax consequence, then an update is required by 31 January after the end of tax year in which the trustees do have a UK tax liability. Changes are possible on a voluntary basis. |

6 October | Pensions: deadline for pension administrators to give a pension savings statement to scheme members if their pension inputs in the scheme in 2023/24 exceed the annual allowance. | |

1 April | R&D tax relief: no amount of an R&D expenditure credit (RDEC) or R&D tax credit may be paid to a nominee for claims made on or after this date. For accounting periods beginning on or after this date, a new merged R&D expenditure credit scheme replaces R&D tax relief for SMEs and the RDEC. Also, the threshold for being an R&D-intensive company reduces from 40% to 30% for accounting periods beginning on or after this date. VAT: the registration threshold increases from £85,000 to £90,000, and the deregistration threshold from £83,000 to £88,000. |

1/6 April | Charity tax reliefs: non-UK charities and community amateur sports clubs are no longer eligible to claim UK charitable tax reliefs. |

5 April | Employers: deadline to register to payroll benefits from 2024/25. NIC: deadline to pay voluntary class 2 for 2017/18. |

6 April | Basis period reform: from this date, income tax is charged on trading profits arising in the tax year. Cash basis: the cash basis becomes the default method for the self-employed and partnerships from this date. The turnover, interest and loss relief restrictions are also removed. Off-payroll working/IR35: calculation of PAYE liability in cases of non-compliance can from this date take account of tax and NIC already paid by a worker and their intermediary on payments received from an off-payroll working engagement. Construction industry scheme: changes to the gross payment status test apply from this date. HMRC also has the power to remove gross payment status immediately in cases of serious non-compliance. NIC: the main rate of class 4 contributions reduces by 3 percentage points from 9% to 6%. Self-employed individuals with profits above the lower profits threshold of £12,570 are no longer required to pay class 2 contributions. |

Employers: deadline to file the 2023/24 report of termination payments and benefits where noncash benefits are included in an employee termination package. No report is required where the total value of the settlement is below £30,000. Employers: deadline for employees to make good the cost of non-payrolled benefits in kind provided in 2023/24. This deadline does not apply to beneficial loans. Employers: deadline for taxed award scheme providers in 2023/24 to provide form P443 certificates to recipients showing details of the award and tax paid under a higher rate scheme and make returns of awards made to HMRC on forms P35(TAS) and P440. This is generally used by third parties who provide taxable benefits to someone else’s employee.
