DebtMounting tax debts will increase the focus on the activities of HMRC Debt Management. Early 2021 will be a critical period for many taxpayers as deferred income tax self assessment and VAT liabilities become due.

This article addresses one aspect of HMRC’s collection activity that has been queried by ICAEW members: HMRC’s use of debt collection agencies (DCAs) and whether HMRC sells debt to third parties.
