HMRC has increased its focus on the tax agent market with the appointment of a new Director, Lucy Pink, with specific responsibility for agents. In its response to the review into the loan charge the government announced that it will launch a call for evidence on what steps it can take to raise standards in the tax advice market.
Meanwhile, HMRC is developing digital services that will have a significant impact on agents including Making Tax Digital, a replacement Trust Registration Service and a service for the new requirement to report gains on UK residential property within 30 days of completion from April 2020.
