Staffing: joiners, leavers and the IT implications

When staff join or leave the practice or business, the process is no longer as simple as obtaining or issuing a P45. All the IT resources need “setting up” or “disabling” – but even disabling is not necessarily the end of the story.

Giving a joiner access to the main IT systems can be reasonably straightforward. Working in a hosted environment, we simply notify the hosting provider a couple of days beforehand that Joe Bloggs starts on the 1st of the month. They set up the access into the main desktop, give access to an email account, Word, Excel etc. He walks in and off he goes ….sort of.

When someone leaves, the hosted provider disables his access to the main systems so he can no longer log in.
